Habitat selection and density of common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) in Northern Italy: effects of land use cover and landscape configuration

چکیده
Abstract Knowing the ecology of game species is important to define sustainable hunting pressure and plan management actions aimed maintain viable populations. Common pheasant ( Phasianus colchicus ) one main gamebird in Europe North America, despite its native range extending from Caucasus Eastern China. This research environmental variables shaping spatial distribution male pheasants estimate their breeding density an agroecosystem northern Italy. During season, 2015, we carried out 372 point counts with unlimited distances, randomly placed following a stratified sampling survey design. The habitat requirements were evaluated presence vs. availability approach, using related land use cover landscape configuration. We built generalized linear models binary distribution, selecting information-theoretic approach. Densities estimated through both conventional multiple-covariate distance sampling. 1.45 males/km 2 , 4.26 suitable areas 0.91 unsuitable ones. found meadows tree plantations, which used find food refuges predators bad weather conditions. Similarly, woodlands have positive effect on occurrence, whereas arable lands avoided, specifically maize paddy fields. little evidence that configuration affects occurrence. be negatively affected by length edges between lands, grasslands seem beneficial for species. These findings could help wildlife managers improvement useful self-sustaining populations this species, increasing woodlands, meadows, plantations.

متن کاملRegulation of nematode fecundity in the ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus): not just density dependence.
Patterns of nematode fecundity were investigated for infections of the caecal worm Heterakis gallinarum in the ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus). Worm length was a good predictor of parasite fecundity. After controlling for worm length no other factors, including parasite intensity, were related to worm fecundity. Density dependence in worm size was detected in natural infections at pa...

Introduction: The morphogenic and histogenetic events of an organ and their time sequencing are basic required information to study factors involved in cells differentiation and evaluating the influence of different agents during the critical period of organ formation. The birds are noted as models in experimental embryologic studies, more than other animals. The present study described the mor...

In some parts of Britain, pheasants Phasianus colchicus are infested by Ixodes ricinus ticks in the spring and summer. The effects of experimental reduction of tick infestation levels on the breeding success and survival of reared female pheasants were studied on two estates in southern England during 1995-1997. Females were radio-tagged and half of the birds, selected at random, were fitted wi...

OBJECTIVE This study was performed at the Gelemen Pheasant Procreation Farm affiliated to the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, Ministry of Forest and Water Affairs. METHODS A total of 203 faecal samples and 17 necropsies were examined. RESULTS In the faecal examination, Capillaria spp. accounted for 28.6% and Heterakis spp. for 17.2% of eggs; in necropsy, Capil...
